Description

Requip is a dopamine agonist, a drug used to treat certain medical conditions, including Parkinson’s disease as well as restless leg syndrome (RLS). There are two versions, an extended-release variant and an immediate-release drug. The extended-release drug may be used only by patients with Parkinson’s disease. The immediate release drug may be used by patients with either of these two conditions.

How it Works

This drug works by imitating a substance called dopamine, which is normally found in the brain. In some individuals, the levels of dopamine present are abnormal. If there is insufficient dopamine in the brain, the normal transmission of signals between neurons in the brain is hindered. This is what takes place in the case of people with Parkinson’s disease. Requip works by offering a substitute for the lacking dopamine and thus helps to normalize the signal transmission.

Uses

Requip is primarily used in the treatment of symptoms exhibited by patients with Parkinson’s disease or RLS. It can only be taken with the prescription of a doctor and should be consumed in precise dosages as instructed.

The dosage required will depend on the condition of the patient and the severity of the symptoms. A doctor will advise on the frequency and quantity of the drug to be taken orally.
